Trestle Table
Furniture Design   |   Spring 2021

The brief for this project was to make a pair of trestles to hold at least 300 lbs. After some research I took a different approach and decided to have the trestles span the long axis instead of the short. This created an effect that accentuated the length of the glass as well as created a void which made the end seats visually powerful. The trestles use small wood members joined together to make a beam with more visual weight. The same concept is used for the feet which are doubled up to give it a sturdy stance. The joints are very simple and use a threaded rod with a nut to create friction, keeping the wood bound together. This creates a very table structure which is only bound in three areas. Overall, this trestle design accentuates the length of the glass and reveals a new space between the trestles allowing opportunities for exploration.
